Been a long time but I seem to remember yard jobs having a foreman, pin puller, and field man. In my experience I attach the term "swing man" to a third brakeman in trainmen's territory, where you had a conductor, head man, flagman, and occasionally a swing man. But I agree with the comment that this could and probably did vary by railroad....my experience was primarily with the SP Coast Division.
