Then and now

I rode the original Canadian on the CP only once, but it was my honeymoon. Needless to say it was a nice trip. My wife still remembers being offered seconds in the dining car when we had prime rib one night. Sadly I never rode the Super Continental, wish I had.

One unfortunant reality with the current arrangement is the lack of direct service to and from Montreal. I would much rather spend some time in Montreal than Toronto. Toronto is nice, just not as interesting as Montreal for a short visit.

Westbound you arguably see better scenery on the current CN route. The problem with the CP was that westbound it would get dark around Field, and you woke up almost in Vancouver. Eastbound on the CP was better because you had light from west of Revelstoke. I think the scenery on the CN between Swan Lake and Jasper is second to none.

Any way you cut it, great train riding.
