You know what's funny is that the people that have never attended the Modoc Railroad Academy always know the most. Isn't that kind of funny? The modoc railroad academy is unlike any other school. Half the time is spent on the field and the other half in the classroom. A lot of people have asked what's the difference between the modoc railroad academy compared to a conductor program at a college. Well basically the modoc railroad academy is run like a railroad. Unpredictable hours and unpredictable events that go on through the day. Where as a college there is a set predictable schedule. At modoc our holy bible is GCOR. Constanly reading it and explaining it over and over again. In addition to that you are required to read CFR 49 215, 232, ect. It is a very intense program.
The very first day of class our teacher got a phone call from CP asking if he can fill over 100 conductor spots at CP. Dave simply replied sorry I only have 7 for you right now. So to answer another one of your questions, yes class 1 railroads hire from Modoc. In addition many shorelines also give job offers to the students straight out of school.
Lastly to all you haters/foamers out there don't get mad at Modoc for giving us a career, future, and a job. I owe my life to Modoc. Dave Rangle has gone above and beyond to
Help us out with our careers.
