I've been told that part of the problem NS/MN will face is the fact that there are no replacement parts for much of the signal equipment. As noted in the story, they were already planning on a future signal upgrade. Whatever they grab to replace lost hardware, it will not be in-kind. When I left that area 15 years ago, the Southern Tier signal system was still mostly Erie-era.
