North Platte - but not for chasers

Downtown: Pay homage to the depot and the North Platte Canteen: a brass plaque.

Then visit the Canteen museum at the county fairgrounds several miles to the Northwest.
Troop trains were coming thru on frequencies approximating today's coal trains.

A few miles to the East, US 30 has a diagonal overcrossing with sidewalk, over the 3MT-CTC.
Very little highway traffic. Chair such as a "director's", to get your head above the concrete railing. And bring binoculars. The signals and trains are quite a show. Note that when a train approaches a signal, all three light up, so that the crew can tell which is "theirs".

Is UP's view tower open for visitors? Again, bring binoculars.
