As a wee tot, I barely remember riding the 171 when it was still green and white at Orange Empire, then it was out of service for many years, and I never saw it run again. I will always associate the 172 refurbishment project with Wally Richards, a neat old guy who I probably should have spent more time listening to and getting advice from.

I still need to get to The City and see the Iron Monster in action. I live close enough and visit fairly frequently for a SoCal guy, but I haven't seen that car yet. Lots of PCCs and some foreign equipment, though. Pretty remarkable resurgence, and often very crowded!
