Very nice pix of the two 5200's.
Noticed that you stated they were working the (Jennings Yard) hump jobs.
That would be a rarity as most of the time, the 5200's would be used on trim jobs working out of the yard office in the cemter of the yard.
My memory recalls that most of the time the hump jobs used "cow and calf" V-8 powere EMD's for hump work as they had a giant sized variable rheostat that allowed the engineer to control the speed of the cuts that was being humped.
I did run one of the 5200's that had this same rheostat control. I was told that it didn'nt very good due to the air controlled throttle/governor system the Baldwins used.
Also worked as a fireman on the Woodland beet hauler/switcher that used a single 5200 on the main line from Roseville to Woodland/Knight's landing branch.
Cranky-assed enginer said not word for damn near 16 hours while we kicked, spotted and swithched out beet cars on the branch, and then finally spotting them inside at the Spreckles processing plant.
Ahh... old memories.
