For good coverage of the whole system, try the two volume series : " The Feather River Route " , by Ken Rattene. Also, the landmark California Zephyr book " Portrait of a Silver Lady " , by Ted Benson & Bruce McGregor, contains an excellent history of WP's construction & early days.
