Hey Folks,

The 28 is not run into the ground. It got a complete running gear rebuild in the late 90's and maybe has 30,000 miles on it. Chump change. Firebox needs some work, BFD. You run the stuff and it wears out.

I would'nt call the Sierra Railway a railroad museum, its a real operating railroad that uses steam and diesel power as time, money, and manpower permit. In the eyes of most of the flunkies that inhabit the place calling it a museum is usually an insult. Dirt floors, poor lighting, no HVAC , no carpet, no brass rails, no fancy interpretive thingys. Most take pride in doing the impossible with little or no money or manpower, they make it look easy just in case nobody has noticed.

As for old #3 absolutely as much of the original machine was retained as was possible. If you really look close and you know what your looking at, its not to hard to see. If you look at the old boiler its not hard to see why it was replaced. No replacement, no running engine. From an operating standpoint its the same ole #3 except it rides a lot more like a baby buggy now than it did when you took that picture. Still using Bill's timing job too!

Bash CSRM hoy paloy all you want, dont bother most of um, they kinda take pride in being the deadend kids.

Bill
