The Google Maps photo at [
g.co] shows how the 12th Street Shanty had become almost hidden by the trees. When I went to work at the shanty almost 40 years ago the large tree in front of the building was a very small sapling growing right at the foundation.
One neat thing about the UR/OE/SP&S/BN/BNSF 12th Street industrial trackage was the opportunity to get an unusual picture of Mt. Hood. On the Lie By (sp? - never did know how they spelled it) lead north of Industrial Street from the height you were at when seated in the loco cab you could get a picture of Mt. Hood perfectly framed in the I-405 Fremont Bridge. The top of the mountain was directly below the flags located at the peak of the bridge arch and the base of the mountain reached to the ends of the arch at highway level. In my case it was a missed opportunity because I never got around to taking a camera to work with me while I was on that job.
