Museum worker killed in tragic train accident
A 56-year-old man was killed in a train accident Sunday night at the Texas Transportation Museum. San Antonio police said the fatal incident was caused by a miscommunication between the train's conductor and the victim.
Police said they were called out to the museum in the 11700 block of Wetmore to investigate the accident around 7 p.m.
Investigators said the train, which is a part of the museum, hit the victim and pushed him into a loading dock's wall. EMS was called out to the scene to treat the injured employee. He, however, did not survive.
Investigators said it was part of the victim's job to assist people on and off the train. There were reportedly no passengers aboard the train at the time of the accident.
The accident remains under investigation. SAPD's homicide detectives are expected to review the case. The victim, whose identity has not been released, is at the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office awaiting an autopsy.
The Texas Transporation Museum was opened in 1964. According to its website, the focus of the facility is to highlight information about San Antonio's transportation history.
In addition, BNSF had a conductor fatality near Navasota Jct. in East Texas when his head apparently made contact with a bridge while leaning over the side railing on the locomotive to get a fuel reading.
