TELL TALE EXTRA: D.T. Sprau Rides Again!

Do not forget to mark your calendars for our upcoming railway presentations at the White River Valley Museum in Auburn, Washington.

February 3: Along Western Washington's Railroad Right-of-Ways with D.T. Sprau, 1930-80.

The Northwest's Own Dave Sprau, train dispatcher and fireman, covers railroads, railroaders, and things that happened to them along the way from about 1930 (earlier than that for a story or two), through 1980 on the Burlington Northern, Great Northern, Milwaukee and the Northern Pacific. This includes stories about milestone events, accidents, rule violations, and even a cover-up or two. ''Some of these may be tales out of school,'' says Dave, ''but out of respect for persons involved they will not be embarrassingly so - - at least, not very much.'' He will also try and recruit one or two other veterans from Northwest lines to help get these stories over the road. If time permits, Dave will also include a Q and A section covering railroading into the 1980s. Please note, as Dave now lives in Oregon, in the case of snow on I-5, we will flip presentation times with Tim Repp's show (below).

April 6: The Other Washington with T.O. Repp, 1967-2012.

In April Tim Repp, author of Main Streets of the Northwest, covers a small portion of a sequel to his 1989 book. Tim has been photographing the Northwest railroading since the 1960s. His tour covers Washington State railroading from Class I main lines and branches to logging roads. There is special emphasis on the 1980s when BN and Amtrak hit their stride, but before branches were sold off or abandoned. If you ever wondered what those bike trails looked like with trains on them, do not miss his show!

Our third 2012 show is Saturday, October 6.

Visit White River on the Web at www.wrvmuseum.org for articles, directions and pictures. White River is located at 918 H Street in Auburn, Washington. Admission price is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors/children, free for WRVM Life members. Snacks, juice and coffee are provided. The Museum opens for evening tours at 6:30 PM and the presentations begin at 7:30 PM across the way at the Auburn Senior Center. Programs generally run until 9:30 or 10 PM.
