Re: What Color was the Hemet, CA station built in 1894?

I see nobody has taken the bait.

The reason that there are no photos of the 1894 Hemet depot is because it burned down
in late December 1897 or early January 1898 (I have the exact date in a newspaper
reference buried somewhere in my stacks of paperwork. However, the Los Angeles Times
of Jan. 18, 1898 did report that it burned "two weeks ago"). All photographs purporting
to be of the 1894 depot are actually of the depot built after the fire.

Serpico and Gustafson were unaware of this fire when they wrote their Santa Fe depot
book, "Coast Lines Depots, Los Angeles Division." After I came across the newspaper
references, I passed the information along to them.
