PDX, where did the rest of your circle trip take you? I remember those All Aboard America zone fares in the 80s, and took advantage of it a couple of times. Did one circle trip Spokane-Portland-Oakland-L.A.-San Juan Capistrano-L.A.-Las Vegas-Salt Lake City-Sacramento-Portland-Spokane, and another one Spokane-Portland-Boise-SLC-Las Vegas-L.A.-SJC-L.A.-Oakland-Portland-Spokane. Not sure why I didn't hit Seattle on one of those legs (have long since done Spokane-Seattle, though). Was a great way to travel back to see old friends in SoCal while I was still young, single, and had hardly a care in the world.
