Hi Steve,

In that Crown Point shot, if you go south of the mine (further left as you view it), you'll encounter Overman Pit...a large, open-pit strip mine that is now abandoned. It is better depicted in another one of my photos...one of the shots that didn't post correctly the first time. Look at my later posts for the Overman Pit shot.

Anyway, I shot the Crown Point picture from up on the railroad grade above Gold Hill. From that POV, it is difficult to see Overman Pit, or anything left of that mine shaft. I chose to put the mine on the left, so I could show what is obviously a filled area that starts just to the right of it. Although not particularly photogenic, the fill is the former site of the Crown Point Trestle...I posted a link to a historic photo of the trestle in the shot caption. Yeah, this image is probably not the most artistic composition, but its purpose was primarily to show how the landscape has changed. Wish that old trestle was still there. That'd be a heck of a shot!

I actually did initially try to post a wider version of this scene, but the RailPictures.net Screening Team said no to that idea....perhaps you've had that experience! :o)
