Almost every day since the mid-1860's, passenger trains have traversed the Central Pacific/Southern Pacific line over Donner Pass. 4-4-0's to cab-forwards, PA's, E-units, F-units, and on this day Amtrak GE P42 "Genisis" units in "retro" paint are leading the "Reno Fun Train" eastward out of Long Ravine to Cape Horn and beyond.
As Walter Huston once sang "...and the days dwindle down to a precious few..." after 49 years, in all probability, only two trips each remain for the Fun/Snow Train operation. The Westbound Snow Train of March 11th, will be the end.
