SP was first railway into Whittier, including spur to packing house. The end of the branch ended near Hadley St.
PE was next into Whittier. Their private row running NW curved SSW onto Whittier Blvd. a block north of Philadephia St., then curved east onto Philadelphia, immedialtly crossed the SP, and continued east on Philadelphia to the end of the line as originally described. In 1922 a new freight spur branching north off of Philadelphia, a block east of Whittier Blvd. was built and the unused Hermosa Beach freight house was relocated there. Passenger service ended in 1938, when the tracks in the streets were probably removed. At the point where the PE tracks previously curved onto Whittier Blvd., they crossed the blvd. and connected with the SP in their yard area. This was the end of the PE Whittier Line trackage.
In 1942, the SP removed a large section of their branch south of the industrial area located west of Whittier Blvd. PE then took control of the remaining SP tracks. The end of the new branch still near Hadley.
