Illinois Central operated regular passenger service over its Omaha District (between Council Bluffs and Tara, immediately west of Fort Dodge, Iowa) starting in January 1900 (the line was more or less completed in December 1899), and continuing until the Omaha section of the Hawkeye was discontinued in June - July 1939. The line has hosted occasional special passenger trains and Amtrak movements (detours and inspection trips) since that time.
