We always keep a current copy of Jane's Fighting Ships on the bridge of our ship. I think the cost has to do a lot with the massive amount of research and updating that Jane's puts into their publications. All of Jane's publications are rather substantial, and I would imagine it takes a lot of work to put out current information every two years. For what we do, it is well worth the money to have the information at our fingertips.
