Not correct. Eurostar started operating From London Waterloo to Paris and Bruxelles in 1994 through the Channel Tunnel. It used mostly existing tracks to reach the channel tunnel with speeds up to 100 mph. The tracks went into a new station at Waterloo alongside the existing station. In 2003 the first part of the British High Speed line opened from the Channel Tunnel to Fawkham Junction, then existing tracks were used to reach London Waterloo. From November 14 2007 Eurostar will no longer operate out of Waterloo but will operate out of London St Pancras Intrnational which has been adapted for its new role as an INTERNATIONAL station. Existing trains from London to Sheffield now operate from a brand new station which was built to the west side of the existing station. From 2009 a commuter service will operate from Kent to London St Pancras at speeds up to 140 mph.
With speeds up to 300 kph (186 mph) London to Paris non stop will be 2 hours 15 minutes and London to Bruxelles will be under 2 hours.
A brand new servicing facility has been built at Stratford to replace the existing facility in West London at North Pole paid for by the British Government. The existing North Pole facility and the international platforms at Waterloo will be transferred to British Government ownership as part of the contract.
