I'm trying to get people interested in the fact that ALCO sent many of its shop employees to Iran with a USA army shop battalion during WW II. Alco contributed some 70 diesels with modified guages to help haul supplies from the Persion Gulf to the Caspian Sea in Russia for Lend Lease supplies. This was the main route for by-passing the German U-boats that were causing such havoc on the Murmansk route for L/L supplies.
My feeling is that surely in Schenenctady there are families of some of these ALCO shoppies who experienced the unique experience of working in Iran. Quite different from Schenectady. Anyone outbthere with any information?
