So --- I am operating a short EWG train westbound on 6/13/2012 with only 6 empty grain cars. As I approach the bridge where our line goes under the BNSF Columbia River subdivision, I see a headlight to the west, near Espanola. I have always wanted to get a picture of two trains at this location.
PSSSSSSSSSSS --- set 20# of air and my train comes to an easy stop. Grab my camera out of my grip and look for a spot to shoot from. The eastbound BNSF stack train with BNSF 4848 on the point is moving about 60mph and he is there in a heartbeat. I guess that I will call this "Shortline privilege". I snap and hope for the best.
It isn't a great picture. It would have been nice if the sun had been on my side! But, I have NEVER seen a picture at this location showing trains on both railroads. There is a county road (West Thorpe Rd - goes west from South Brooks Rd) that also goes under this bridge. It is located about 4 miles north of Medical Lake WA.
3000 is a SD40-2 leased from Western Rail. 8924 is an SD45.
Here is an earlier picture (5/18/2009) of an eastbound EWG train with 8924 as it passes under this bridge.
The BNSF line was formerly the Great Northern Spokane WA-Wenatchee WA mainline. The EWG line was formerly the Northern Pacific's Central Washington branch line which runs from Cheney WA to Coulee City WA. There was never a physical connection between the two lines at this location.
