The Southern Pacific RED TRAINS (IER) were stored and maintained at SP's "WEST ALAMEDA SHOPS", which was located in West Alameda near the old Naval Air Station property.
The SHOPS were also used to maintain the cars and traction motors on the crack streamliner, the "City of San Francisco".. The 'CITY' would be towed by a STEAM engine over IER trackage to and from West Alameda and West Oakland as needed, for maintenance purposes.
In later years, the building was used by Todd Shipyards. The late Vernon Sappers and myself toured the property years ago and the three sets of tracks were still inside the building.
