Problem is that Florida has plenty of its own production of citrus and produce so there would not be too much demand for California products. Also - look at the return schedule they are offering - 10 days for the 2500 miles of California to Florida or an average of around 10 mph. The return train is obviously not high priority and not really suitable for fresh perishables.
For eastbound moves, Railex has a much better option to move Delano, CA (north of Bakersfield) to New York in 5 days. Railex has also struggled to find return loads, though has moved wine and supposedly even orange juice westbound. Notice that Railex also intends to enter the Southeast and Midwest markets that Tropicana hauls to. [

I wonder if Tropicana from Florida to California, Railex from California to New York, and deadhead from New York to FLorida might be a better use of equipment and fuel - assuming that Tropicana and Railex would work together?
