Re: Are The NS Heritage Units Causing Some Confusion On Other Railroads?

The reason for the revised rule is unknown, but here is something to consider, none of the Norfolk Southern heritage units have SOU, NW, PRR, CG, INT, GSF, AGS, CRCX, or CR initals stenciled on there sides. ALL the Norfolk Southern hertiage units clearly have "NS" initials next to the road numbers.
Norfolk Southern has always painted the precedessor's initals under the unit number on its diesels since I believe its creation. The reason for this is also unknown, but might be due to paper ownership among subsidaries companies or something similar.
My guess is some BNSF MOW worker somewhere mistook the initials on a run-thru NS locomotive and it caused some problems, thus the rule was revised.
