I ounce owned a '64 Cessna Skyhawk (172) and the pilot's door window could be opened in flight. It swung out only 5 or 6 inches, but it was enough to take shots down and somewhat to the side. I needed to throtle back to 90 or 100 MPH otherwise it got a bit windy in the cabin. I took alot of pictures but not of trains, oh well.
