Nice shots, Charles. It's a shame some idiot tagged those gensets on the UP local. Here in the Portland area, we've taken at least one step to keep it from happening...

The Oregon Rail Heritage Foundation, which is the umbrella group for the organizations that maintain and restore the city of Portland's three steam locomotives, set up a "neighborhood watch" for them and the other rolling stock that came over to the new Oregon Rail Heritage Center site June 26 when the groups finally vacated the old Brooklyn Roundhouse.

The building wasn't complete yet, so that meant having to store the steamers and other stock outside, including Doyle McCormack's PA1. We've been keeping a guard to ensure that the taggers and the metal thieves stay away. Once the building is far enough along, the steamers and the PA can go inside and the other rolling stock can come inside the security fencing so that we can finish up.

The heritage center is tentatively schedule to open to the public on Saturday, Sep. 22, along with the beginning of service on Portland Streetcar's east bank extension. This streetcar line will have its southernmost stop adjacent to the heritage center and the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry.
