Westbound Reno Fun Train at Auburn March 1976

Spring of 1976 and Jerry Ford was busy bouncing golf balls off peoples heads while Richard Nixon sulked in San Clemente. Ford was hoping to become president on his own that fall and a peanut farmer and former naval officer from Georgia was appearing on the scene.

By that time, the Reno Fun Train had morphed into an Amtrak operation but still run by SP crews and with former SP cars and power. On this day, Amtark FP7 #111 (ex-SP #6447) was leading as the train passed thru the Auburn Ravine area. This would be the last time any train would cross Donner Pass with all F-unit power as the following weekend SDP40F #542 would lead four FP's on the Fun Train.
