So why couldn't they attach the ex-NP dome car, which needed to go from Redwood City (or SSF) to Oakland, to this train, rather than sending it via Watsonville/Altamont/Roseville?!?

I cetainly don't know anything about UP operations, and they seem to be making money, so arguably they do know what they're doing, but really ...
