Mr. Nicholson, Sir--
The correct pseudo name for myself is "Key Route Ken"... Thank you..
As a side note for this TALGO thread--
Several years ago when the TALGO was first brought to America by the Spanish Company that designed them, it made a special appearance on the tracks of the Southern Pacific.. I cannot remember the exact date but I'm sure that DREW or CAROL or VIC will remember, You know who you are..
This is well before the grand old SP went bye-bye forever... My wife and I received a letter in the mail from the SP Vice-President inviting us to take a ride on the TALGO. How we ever got on his mailing list, I never could figure out.
We were told to meet the group in the yard area at 5th & Kirkham Streets in Oakland as I recall.
Anyway, we boarded and had the opportunity to meet the two Spanish gentlemen who came over with the trainset. Next we knew, it was all aboard...
The trainset made a grand circle tour via Sacramento, Lathrop, and San Jose and other points.
Gosh--it's been so long I forgot the exact routing.
The SP went all out serving snacks and drinks using retired dining car waiters from the old West Oakland Commissary.
We enjoyed ourselves very much and met many interesting people and railroad executives.
In the car we were riding in, we were honored to enjoy the company of Mike Ongerth's (MDO)
Father... When the train got into San Jose later in the day, MDO himself was there to greet us.
It was a fun time that brought back old SP memories. Maybe MDO or someone could help me remember the date and other details. Thanks to all..
"Key Route Ken"...
