The track was Class 1 when WRM operated excursions on it. The last figure I heard was that it would require about one-half million dollars worth of new ties to bring it back to Class 1, the lowest class that allows passenger trains.
This track has some very interesting vernal ponds in the spring. However for the rest of the year after the vernal ponds dry up it is a very boring ride. It is absolutely straight after it crosses Lambie Road about 1/2 mile from Rio Vista Junction. Reportedly this was part of the longest tangent track in California.
The same geology that creates vernal ponds also causes very poor drainage for the track. The result is a lot of rotten ties.
Motorcar Operators West operates on this track occasionally.
