From a source on scene, on Sunday, August 12, 2012 the Orange Empire Railway Museum had some evidently minor damage (overhead down and two carbarns with some sheet metal damage) not necessarily from a full tornado but a microburst's funnel cloud that also brought pea-sized hail. Power went dead so LARy trolley 1201 stayed outdoors. Further west this may have become a true tornado that touched down. Perris, CA is in a tornado alley significantly busier than state average, and had two category F2 tornadoes (wind speeds 113-157 mph), one 41.3 miles away on November 7, 1966 and another six miles out on May 22, 2008.

The tornado was reported along Highway 74 west of Interstate 15 at 4:24 p.m., said Roger Pierce, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in San Diego. The funnel clouds prompted the Weather Service to issue a tornado warning from 4:33 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday. Sudden wind gusts blew down at least two wood utility poles and tore up some roofing on homes near Menifee and Nuevo roads, one resident said.

A funnel cloud, the predecessor of a tornado, appeared west of Perris, near the Good Hope area, and made its way ominously towards Lake Elsinore. It lasted approximately five minutes. The funnel cloud was spotted near I15 and State Route 74.
