I was being facetious with my post above. Yes coal dust has been a peril for miners along with people exposed to dust in other venues. Like Pdx says a great many jobs have some health consequences that may not appear till you reach the "golden years".
Here in our small town in N.E.Oregon most major buildings and a great many homes were still heated by coal till the late 1980's including my own house. The coal we bought here came from Utah and was covered in oil to keep down dust. Some delivered loads to our home bin were saturated with oil to the extent that it would leave a slick under the coal as it was used out of the bin. That was 20 plus years ago, so no idea what the protocols are today.
