Chewelah is indeed the interchange point between the two railroads. The KFR was obligated to build a 7600 foot siding there as part of the lease agreement with the BNSF when they took over the lines north of there. Also, as information, the actual interchange takes place during the night, often with the two trains meeting there about the same time. The KFR job returns to Kettle Falls as soon as their work is done. The BNSF train spends the night until a new crew comes up from Spokane in the AM to head south.
