Not sure if it qualifies for "hard to find," but one title I remember from long ago was, I believe, "The Railroad Caboose" by William Knapke. Not a meticulous, technical book on the subject. Just a collection of colorful and captivating stories and photos from a forgotten era of railroading. A lot of Morgan/Hastings style drama when you were a kid or young teenager just beginning to figure out what trains were about.
