While the UN Agenda 21 theory is interesting... hell, maybe even related in some extremely, remotely distant way... I think there's a much simpler explanation for the USFS's inaction.

They're incompetent.

Not all of them mind you, there's still a few good folks working for that proud agency ranked 209th out of 216 for employee morale (in 2009).

The USFS lacks real leadership and has no coherent purpose or mission "Caring for the land and serving people." What the hell is that supposed to mean? That's the problem... it can mean anything to anyone, especially to the politicians who repeatedly bend it over to suit their own, narrow, short-term interests. Which by-and-large DOESN'T include effectively managing America's forests anymore.

There's a reason it's called the "Forest Circus". Been there, done that.

Sorry for the rant. Good to hear Collins is going to get in on some salvage and the Lakeview folks will get to haul it. Good news for the area.
