I love seeing a reporter regurgitate information he/she doesn't understand. I'm assuming the inspectors based their findings on the maximum load the structures could conceivably face with modern cars. Doubtful they'll ever see anything heavier than empty cars headed to/from storage and some deadheading passenger equipment heading up to Santa Cruz. Pegging it at just over a million more than outlined in a study a number of years ago looks like getting off easy. Of course this proper inspection should have been done when they were still negotiating, but it appears this is SOP for that county agency.
