Celebrate Transcontinental Railroad at California State Railroad Museum Saturday, September 29th
The Union Pacific Railroad is coming to Sacramento to help celebrate the 150th anniversary of the start of the transcontinental railroad. Bill George, producer of the film "The Hidden Wonder of the World, the Transcontinental Railroad from Sacramento to Donner Summit," will lead you on a special tour of the day's events. Everything except your meals and parking is free! The day's schedule:
10 a.m.-Meet in lobby of the California State Railroad Museum at 125 I Street, Old Sacramento. Welcome from Bill George.
10:30 a.m. Guided tour of railroad museum, visit special exhibit on the transcontinental railroad, visit the replica "Golden Spike" and other art and displays.
Noon-break for lunch.
1:00 PM-Guided tour of Central Pacific Railroad sites in Old Sacramento, the train depot, and site of Sacramento's original Chinese community.
3:30 PM- See the inside of the engineer's cab of the legendary steam locomotive No.844. Ride the free excursion train or the Union Pacific's 956.
5:00 PM Conclude day with no-host cocktail reception at Fat City Bar & Cafe, 1001 Front Street, Old Sacramento. Learn the legend of the "stolen" Leadville, Colorado bar!
