Last weekend, 20 photographers invaded the small town of Denton, Montana for a photo freight on the Central Montana Rail, Inc., organized by railfan Jay Lentzner. The consist included CMR No. 1814, a GP9 of Great Northern heritage, and a handful of freight cars.
CMR runs on a section of the former Milwaukee Road near Lewistown. It was formed in 1985 to serve the farming communities of the region. Since 2011, all freight traffic has dried up because the Judith Basin Bridge was damaged in a flood. The railroad is trying to secure funds to repair the bridge but there are no guarantees that freight will ever return.
Here's a shot of our freight crossing the
Sage Creek Trestle, near Danvers.
