Purchased a 1960 26 ft Airstream in 1968 after it had acquired its 8 year amortization for $500.
It was not self contained and had only the 110 volt electricl system. it had been a branch line foremans home and was only occupied in the summer and was in immaculate condition.
I converted it to self contained and traveled all over the weestern US in it. Sold it in 1998 for $2400.
All of the old outfit (living) cars in the MofW on the SP were retired by 1978 with trailers, including the system rail gang, using modular trailers on flat cars manufactured by special contract with Airstream in Santa Fe,CA.
