Land Grants

I was Goggling the relationship between a Union Pacific local, which wakes me up at 2:00 am when it blows the horn for street crossings, and the fracking sand industry.

Ran across an article concerning "Land Grant" organizations, which can be found HERE.
I think this an interesting, if pointless, read.

I live in a town that has a "Quiet Zone" agreement with the UPRR, on the mainline. However, the sub-division is not part of the Quiet Zone, and the sound of those GP15-1's honking away in the early AM can be really irritating.
