Our local congressman Sam Farr is among one of the most clueless turkeys in the area----this quote from him shows just how far removed he is from the realities of the area he supposedly represents-----------because he is so ineffectual, he gets elected every year because he can "do no harm"--------he just blathers on with whatever his spin doctors hand him-----"train to Carmel"----oh puleeeeeze Sam!! he takes some facts and spins webs of obfuscation---------would someone like to translate "a rail company can['t just carve it up and sell it like any other real estate"----c'mon Sam, that is exactly what has already been done. UP sold the Monterey branch to the TAMC dope smokers and the Santa Cruz branch to those Cruzans------------jeez.

The quote I refer to:
Congressman Sam Farr, also at the celebration, said a train from Carmel to Santa Cruz might be possible some day, but would take a lot of investment and a lot of bureaucracy would have to be cleared. For instance, different areas of track are owned by different entities, which creates scheduling and liability issues, along with other factors.

“It’s not impossible,” Farr said. “What we’ve wisely done here is preserve this rail corridor so that we don’t lose access, so that a rail company can’t just carve it up and sell it like any other real estate.”

Farr pointed out that the rail line from Castroville to Seaside is already publicly owned, but would need repairs. Aging infrastructure is also a problem with the Santa Cruz rail line. Farr said paid passengers were not allowed to ride the train from Watsonville to Capitola due to the condition of the trestles along the way. A trestle near La Selva Beach is particularly aged, limiting traffic to just freight service due to the liability.

Well, duh---------------------
