Hi Tom,
I believe the low level set is in regular rotation along the Surfliner route. Until earlier this year, the low level set was in regular service between LA and SLO, which allowed easy installation of private cars in the consist. Amtrak, much to the unhappiness of PV owners, pulled the low level set and sends bilevel cars to SLO. This was a problem for certain PV cars without steps. Now the Overland Trail must run with a car with steps causing a price increase for their Vino Train concept. At $145 per person round trip to Santa Barbara, it is still a good deal with the great service and food included. I see the P-42 type loco on occasion in Orange County.
