Old Name Surfaces in NWP Country

A Park Service historian remarked to me that Simpson Timber Company's new name in California (California Redwood Company) was the historic name used by the Scottish Realestate Syndicate to swindle large tracts of redwood timber under the Timber and Stone Act and other Federal land laws of the time. It was the inspiration for the 1952 Film "The Big Trees" staring Kirk Douglas and Edgar Buchannon as well as earlier versions in 1939 and 1923. Simpson surrounds those historic lands today.......more recently known as Redwood National Park.

By the way......lots of railroad action in all of these early films. A must for any NWP fan.
