Unfortunately, most running is at night due to changes in how the BNSF handles the trains.
Often, emptys are handed off from the Lind Turn in the evening at Cheney and trains depart
out the CW from there dropping cars off along the way. Sometimes loaded trains work their way back to Cheney in the daylight if rested crews are available. Empties are no longer handed off as a 100 ++ car unit train, but rather handed off in three equal chunks and returned to Cheney that way with the BNSF assembling the full 100 ++ car train of loads at Yardley or Hauser. Usually the EWG units operate in pairs. Sometimes the chunks of one train begin to blend in with the chunks of others and sometimes this results in a heavier train into Cheney as they try to catch up. Runs out to the Geiger spur are more frequent as
more steel seems to be coming in lately. Steel runs are usually, but not always, done in daylight. Spokane County has had a contractor working on the trackage in the Geiger area and things are looking much better than they used to. Happy hunting. (EWG crews are usually friendly and you can often ask what's going on.) (One advantage of running at night is the sound of those 645's carries much futher and makes for good recording opportunities.)
