Arlen, the lights went on about four hours ago at the Vancouver Diesel Shop. When Harlan tried to start the generator shortly before departure from ORHC it would not run. The problem appears to be a poor product design which allowed the gasoline in the tank to be contaminated by rain water collecting around the filler cap. While stopped in Depot 5 we inverted the generator to drain the bad fuel into a waste container but once again, because of a poor product design, we were thwarted in our effort. The unit will have to be partially disassembled to completely drain the tank.

At the Vancouver engine facility after running around the crew car and tying the engine down for the night I located sufficient power cords to supply the lights on the 700 from the crew car.

The BNSF really gave us unexpected priority handling. Because we expected to follow Amtrak 508 to Vancouver we paused in Depot 5 so that the passengers riding Amtrak 507 and 508 could enjoy seeing the engine. Very shortly before 508's departure the Vancouver Terminal Dispatcher called for us and we ran right ahead of 508 all the way to the "B" yard at 39th Street in Vancouver. That put a grin on Mr. Landrock's face! You could tell he likes running an E1 better than an F59.
