Hi There....

The Christmas Town set really looks wonderful at night, all lit up. The SCMB folks did a credible job putting it together.

By DAY, though, as one can see, the setting doesn't leave much to 'imagination'.

I expect that would be difficult (and very $$$) to make Christmas Town so it is attractive for daytime viewing as well as at night. This doesn't mean, however, that given a number of years, the Christmas Town set might yet grow to be a bit more 'Disney-fied' so that it would look impressive when viewed both day or night.

Bear in mind, 'Christmas Town' is but a prop in support of the actual story/program taking place within the train itself, so is probably is not designed, nor meant, to be THE highlight of the trip.


At any rate.....

The 'Train to Christmas Town' show really does take place within the train car(s) so I do recommend folks take the evening trains where the experience is a bit more 'focused'.

In the dark there is not so much track side 'scenery' passing by outside to compete with what takes place inside the train, not to mention the much better night time view of 'Christmas Town'.

At night, kids who have never been on a train can still see the parts of the trip that are lit externally, like Beach Street and some of the areas the train passes that are lit up with streetlights.

Then...perhaps...

It would be great fun to take the kids out for a daytime ride on BART or CALTRAIN later, perhaps the week after Christmas, for the experience of watching stuff go by outside a train... not to mention being able to walk through stations and see other trains in action.
