Amtrak's new Chief Safety Officer (that's a position in the Number Three executive tier in the company), Dr. Magdy El-Sibaie, has quit.
His first day was Monday, January 7; he resigned effective Tuesday, January 8.
This seemed incredible, but I received confirmation from my own sources, and in the past half hour, I received confirmation from a well-known rail journalist whom I tipped off, and who then called on some of his other sources.
We don't feel good enough about the rumored reasons for Dr. El-Sibaie's departure to say any more, for now.
