Don't know about the mine. These were probably loads of metallurgical coal from Utah. The Kaiser Sunnyside coal trains were a three railroad operation, with D&RGW coal SD45s (e.g. 5327) and UP SD45s, and then a Santa Fe helper for Cajon. You would occasionally see solid sets of Rio Grande power come in on a coal train, but not very often.
