Goes to prove, you guys don't know things from a Mechanical standpoint. Anytime a long distance Amtrak train is unable to reach the End Point Terminal where servicing, maintenance and inspection is done, you run into a problem, per FRA rules, where qualified Mechanical Inspectors are not available. There are times that it is much cheaper to detour the train, so that at least it makes it to the end point destination, so the equipment can be turned, cleaned and inspected. When you annull/terminate a train short of the end point, you then have to send out mechanical people from far away locations to turn the train and this can be a problem as if these people leave the yard, you then have a manpower problem with servicing the remaining trains at the End Point Terminal. Also, if you have a bad order car or two, they have to be left behind and then another way has to be found to either repair that car or move it to a spot where it can be repaired, this is also costly. Then, you have less cars on the train for the run in the other direction. In addition, at an End Point Terminal, cars can be either repaired or swapped out, that can't happen if the train is stopped short of that Terminal.
